Flange Fitting
If you haven't tried on different sizes and shapes of flanges, you're not wearing the right size. Period.
Pumping CAN be comfortable and milk can flow easier. But, in order to find the right size, you need to try the flanges on.
Flanges now come in so many sizes. 10mm-36mm and most sizes have at least 3 different shapes! If you guessed that a 15mm crater flange feels different than a 15mm pano flange, you’d be correct.
It’s fairly easy to measure your nipple and approximate your size. But until you try them on, you don’t know how it’ll feel or how your milk will flow. We all know we can measure our feet to get our shoe size but we also know that each brand and style is going to fit and feel different. Flanges work the same way except we’re using millimeters, not inches/cm so there’s less room for error.
If you need a flange fitting, schedule an appointment. If you’re not in the area, ask IBCLC’s in your area if they have all the sizes and shapes for you to try on.
